I think that is one of my favorite aspects of martial arts. Not that you learn how to defend yourself or your loved ones, or that you learn how to throw a punch and block one as well as kicks, it is that it strongly promotes being a better person and in fact teaches you to do whatever you can to not have to use what you learn in classes. I like that most martial arts stress non-violence and to only use the techniques when absolutely necessary and then only use as little as is necessary. The intention of martial arts is to become better and more rounded as a person, not to inflict damage on others even though you learn how to do so. I think that is what draws me to the arts the most.
